My family has graced me with helping with my Emerging Technologies final, and the following questions were really just fun facts about my father and my eldest sister. I also asked for information from some of my other family members through this really new, hip way to send things, email. I'm kidding, but my father still uses email like it is texting, which is very humorous! In the fifth grade I had a family project just like this and started a family tree that ventured back to the 1500's, here's a look at my tree. then I decided to share some information about my foreign ancestors, who have a life that is truly way more interesting than mine.

Then I decided that I should focus on the adventurers in my family that traveled over from overseas, and collected the surplus of information in an infographic. Although my mother would be saddened by this 5 frame story board, it ranges from the oldest to the youngest in my immediate family. My mother begins the tear as my eldest sister, Lacey follows, then my older sister, Chelsea, and finally ME!! The ending image is of my sister Chelsea, Lacey, and I!

I thought that it was a really good poem/ video clip that really shows what our society has begun to turn into. I agree with everything he says, and when I am nervous I do make conversation, but other times I just like to sit an use my phone or a book as a distraction. I like being able to talk to people face to face, but the thing is they would rather talk phone to phone. I love being able to enjoy others company, and a message when we are further away but I also like to be able to leave my phone at home and not be scrutinized by friends for missing their calls. Honestly the fact is that I am different in my generation, I don't like to only be able to spend my day texting instead of hanging out. One day my friend wanted to get a hold of me and I had just left my phone home so I could have a decent family dinner, but when I arrived home there were seven missed calls and around 25 messages. This was all in a matter of less than 60 minutes, and when I got a hold of her she was mad because my response was 50 minutes late and she had called my other friends to get a hold of me. I can't even have a nice conversation without my phone or theirs going off at least once, and that bothers me because I don't want to experience the world through a phone or through technology, I want to experience it by meeting new and interesting people.

What do you think about it? What is the teacher trying to say? In your own words explain what "the main event" is.

I thought that the teacher was right, I mean I normally go above and beyond what I am asked to do, but I constantly see people quitting in school. As I pass through the halls I hear such things like, "Well I just failed that test, oh well!" No one cares about succeeding anymore all it is always all about technology and getting famous based based on insignificant actions, such as posting a new photo. The teacher is trying to say that students make his personal life harder because their will to succeed is nonexistent, and he wants to make them have success because he cares about them. The main event is life itself it is about being successful and having the will to be there and to be thankful for the teachers.

Reflect on your stop-motion animation project. How did it go? What worked? What didn't work? If you're not finished - why? If you are finished go in to detail about the project and what you learned. Give as much detail and information as possible.

Well I thought that it went okay, it was definitely not one of my strongest projects. I am not that creative, I can come up with creative idea based projects that have a guideline and what not, but not this creative. I thought it turned out okay, even though there were some blurry pictures that needed to be removed, and the camera was a little shaky. Kaitlin was a huge help, because I honestly had no idea what I was doing, or even how to do it. I found that applying the finishing details was the easiest part of it, not actually getting the essence of a stop- motion. What didn't work was the steadiness of the camera and the fact that I have the creative mind of a rock. I struggled a lot with this project, it was fun, but it was stressful.

What is your idea for your stop-motion animation? Explain yourself. Have you started taking photos? If not, when do you plan to take your photos? What is your action plan for today? What is your plan to GET SOMETHING DONE?

My idea for this project is to show the life of a student, by using a pencil bag and my Ap exam booklet and showing all of the utensils climbing out of the bag and flipping through the pages. I have not started taking photos, because I wasn't here on Monday, so I honestly don't know what we are doing, at least how to create a stop- motion animation. I plan on taking my photos today during class and maybe a little on tomorrow. I would like to have all my pictures taken today, and maybe have majority of the project finalized by the end of class tomorrow. To work hard, quick, and efficiently to be able to complete as much as possible before the weekend.

What is stop motion animation? If you don't know, look it up! Explain.

It is using a certain movie program that can make stagnant objects appear to be moving, even though in reality they aren't. You use a series of shots of scenes using things such as using clay or puppets to act out the scene by using programs to make them talk and come to life. This is used all the time such as in a bunch of Tim Burton movies and even the Hogwarts castle is shot in a way that makes it able to appear real. This concept is basically taking continuous pictures moving an object a little at a time, and then morphing the series of pictures to create a little movie.

Tell me about your 5 frame storyboard. What did you like about the project? What did you dislike? Was it hard to fit a story in to 5 images? Do you think you tell a clear story? What would you do differently if you could? Explain.

I liked how we got to edit the photos and use our creative minds to put together a story through images. I didn't like how we couldn't explain the story or at least give a little bit of a background. I thought that it was extremely had to fit the story into five images, because I am so used to having to express details in all of my stories for honors english language arts. I think I do tell a clear story, it is just hard because dance team tryouts, which is what my story is about, aren't for another week. That made it hard to show how the girl made the team, or at least tried out, and I would maybe try to include the idea of dance more throughout. I would also like to improve on photo taking skills.

What is a storyboard? If you don't know, what do you think it is? How are storyboards used? What are some different ways that storyboards can be made?

When you are writing a story and you have all of your ideas and concepts included in your concept. Storyboards are mainly used in book publishing companies, and it is when the workers present what the writer wants to the head publisher, and tries to show its strengths. Storyboards can be made using just words, pictures, dioramas, or just a simple explanation  with a presentation. Mainly story boards are used for books with more illustrations, rather than words, because it is supposed to express the actions throughout the story.

Did you get your pictures taken yesterday? Did you enjoy going on the photo scavenger hunt? Why do you think I had you take those types of pictures?

Yes we have all of our taken and I really enjoyed the scavenger hunt. I thought that it was a great and fun way to introduce photography and the whole concept of editing. I think you had us take those photos, so that we could show you using a photo editing site just how much we know about editing photos. Also it used our creative side and we got to show what we can do with other programs! The reasoning behind the photo taking, was probably to see how much knowledge we have of taking photos and I assume we will be editing the photos to get familiar with online photo editing sites.

What do you know about photography? When you take pictures what kind of camera do you use? Do you use your cell phone? Do you own a digital camera that is not your cell phone? Explain.

I know only few things about photography, but I think it is a really great way to express oneself in an artistic way. When I take photos, well better yet when my sister takes photos she uses a Nikon professional camera. I am only to look at her camera because it is very expensive and she would probably kill me if I dropped it. I do own a phone with a camera and it is always capturing great shots of the adventures my friends and I go on, or just me.

Welcome back! How was your Spring Break? Tell me all about it. You've been out of school for 10 days so I know you will have plenty to share. Make it good!

My Spring Break was good and really uneventful, but it was still a nice break from school. My sister came home for a little and we went to Tads snow cone shop, which was amazing as usual!! Besides that I read a lo, I read Paris in Love and Summer Boys, studied for the Ap European History exam, watched a ton of SVU, and generally relaxed. My dad and I sorted threw old boxes for a while which is always entertaining because of old pictures and old art. Spring Break was super nice though, because I got to go shopping a lot and visit with old friends and new friends, plus I got new glasses!

Prepare yourself... I want you to really THINK about this blog post. I mean use your brain. What is the significance of an infographic? What is the point of pairing graphics and information together? What impact can this have on a reader or viewer. EXPLAIN.

I think it is important, because there are many different learners and not all of them retain the same information reading facts. The images allows for visual learners to gain the dame information that any other learner would, but feel confident in their knowledge. Not only does that help get the audience's attention, but it keeps them enthused about what they are learning. It adds a touch of imagination and a new perspective of how you can view various amounts of information, and be able to relay that information to other people.

If you had the option of writing a 3 page paper or creating an infographic - which one would you choose? Explain yourself.

I would rather make an infographic, because it gives you the information you need in a fast and effective manner. Also a three page paper doesn't really scream creativity or excitement to some learners, so with infographics you can include all types of learners. It also brings design, as well as new online tools that can aid in our learning technology and using it to better our learning. An infographic allows you to show other parts of your knowledge, not just that you can write well like a three paged paper would, but rather allows you to have free reign of creativity. Papers express the feeling of being bored, based on my own opinion as a student.

How far along are you on your infographic? Will you be finished and ready to embed on to your blog by the end of the hour today? Do you think you've used your time wisely in class? Explain yourself.

I am not very far on my infographic, I must admit sadly. Some of my infographic was deleted, and I was having some trouble with the program and my images, so it was kind of hard to get a lot done. I want to be mostly finished at the end of day and maybe have a little time on Monday to finish up the final details. Infographics take a while to be able to fully and successfully complete the task at hand. There are so many things and details that make up an infographic, which is completely better than a paper don't get me wrong. Papers take a shorter amount of time, but they only express creativity through your vast vocabulary. I think I have used my time wisely, but it is hard to not be nit picky on the details.

Thursday, February 27, 2014

Why do I have you brainstorm and collect your information in a Google Doc before putting in to final draft? Explain.

You have us do that, so when we go to put it all together we are not frantic, as well as we can process new and creative ideas. Also you have us do this so that we gain more information about the cause we will be working with for a while. It makes the process easier when we go to put the final product together, because we don't have to scour the internet at the last minute. It was super easy to write our essays, because all we had to do was add fluff and add explanations to make it an essay. When we were collecting the information it was daunting, but the essay itself it was super essay, so thank you for making us collect copious amounts of information.

Yesterday I introduced you to infographics... tell me again what they are and how they are used? What is the benefit of an infographic? What goes into an infogrpahic?

Infographics are a way to present information in a fun and dynamic way, such as using pictures, graphs, and other displays of though on a document. When presented this information, the audience is more enthused, due to the fact that it isn't a paragraph by paragraph explanation of the global issue, or topic you are addressing. An infographic uses the information we have found on our global issue as well as finding captions and attention grabbers, such as powerful  images and graphics. Infographics are basically prettier and more fun paper, they give the same information, but using pictures and eliminate all the fluff that we add to our papers to make it harder to get to the point.

* My essay is all about the causes, effects, and repercussions of eco-terrorism, not only is it a major problem in the U.S., but also allover the world. Many people believe that environmentalists with extreme thoughts are peaceful and harmless, yet they don't know how far they will go to prove their point. Eco-terrorism has been a massive problem in the U.S. after 9/11, because of a lady named Marie mason. She has rallied many extremists and brought about crazy and harmful ideas, such as causing a lot of money in damage.

Here is my global issue paper:

Where are you at with your 5 paragraph essay so far? How is it coming? Is it easy to write? Difficult to write? Is it helpful that you created an outline first? Explain.

I have finished all five paragraphs, but now I am going through and making sure it is a great essay. I think that it is really easy to write after we did the outline and found all our resources before hand. I think that this essay is going really well, because the topic I chose doesn't have a lot of resources, but the resources I did find include a lot of information that is useful. I think it will be a great essay after I tweak some things and add in my citations.

Tell me about your Sweetheart weekend. If you didn't go to Sweetheart, what did you do? I want details!

During Sweetheart weekend, I had a family lunch-in on Saturday, and before the ice I was supposed to volunteer on Friday. I actually did not go to Sweetheart this weekend, but instead my friend Alli and I became couch potatoes and watched a bunch of 80's movies. On Sunday all I did was homework and hang out with my friend Maggie and my dad. I am not a huge football games, so Maggie and I resorted to Say Yes to The Dress and  Girl Code. Overall it was stress free weekend that was needed after a long week of school, and I hope we get a snow day this week!

Who do you look up to in life? Why? What have they done to help you or guide you?

In my life I look up to a meteorologist with the name Reed Timer. Reed Timer is a storm chaser as well as a meteorologist, he has help fellow and upcoming meteorologists by making meteorology more popular in the United States. He has guided me because when I think that I might change what I would like to be, his storm chasers bring back that passion I have to become a meteorologist.

Tell me about the global issue you selected yesterday. Briefly restate your paragraph from yesterday.

The global issue that I have chosen is ecoterrorism. Ecoterrorism is a very important and very threatening issue that we have to face and attempt to control on a daily basis. Ecoterrorism is terrorism such as vandialization, kidnapping for awareness of a cause, and the use of chemicals to hurt or kill people. Although these people may be fighting for a good cause, they end up injuring many and even killing people to get their point across. Ecoterrorism may seem minuscule, but in reality it is just as important as the generalized terrorism that we are all familiar with.

If you could pick one issue in the world to fix or change what would it be and why?

The one issue I would choose would be animal abuse. The reason I chose this topic is because all three of my dogs are rescues. I think that it is very important that we not only take care of our species, but also the animals that share the earth with us. My dog Roary was left in a trash bag on the side of the highway, we didn't find him but we adopted him from the shelter that saved his life. Our dog Sampson was left on the side of the road as well, and my mom got a call from the school saying there was a dog, she immediately picked him up. My last dog is a Petland dog,Harper, as many know Petland is very cruel to the animals such as:not letting them out, letting them fight over food, little amounts of food, and little amounts of water. Our family wouldn't be the same without them in our lives. Helping the animals that not only need a home, but a person to take care of is an easy job, we can all help.

What is a Public Service Announcement? If you don't know what it is, Google it. In your own words, now tell me what it is? What are they used for? Can you recall an example of a PSA you've seen before?

A Public Service Announcement is making a commercial about a very important cause. They make these to try and provide awareness for certain problems around the world. A PSA that I have seen before is the Mesothelioma commercial about soldiers trying to get medical attention after they have served.  Also I have seen a PSA about Unicef, helping starving children who have malaria stay alive, and be able to fight to stay alive. These PSA's are there to provide those victims with a sense of compassion and help. The money or time donated to helping these people is very little, so many say,"Why not help a child by giving them $0.50 a day?" or," help this soldier recover after they have just defend our country."

My three day weekend consisted of working on the massive amount of homework I received on Friday, which made Monday and part of Saturday become a day full of studying and filling out the mass amount of worksheets. Besides working on homework I had some friends come over and went shopping together, which is always fun.  My sister was home from college and this was her last weekend so we got coffee and watched the Olympic qualifiers. To end her day in Overland Park we ventured to First Watch for a wonderful breakfast. It was ultimately a good weekend!

What have you learned about Google Drive and Google Presentation so far? What do you like about it? What problems have you run in to? Is it better than PowerPoint? Explain.

What I have learned about Google Drive is that it saves automatically and it can be shared with whom ever and wherever. The presentation is just a little bit different, it has differences such as not being able to format pictures or have many different transitions. I like Google Drive because i don't have to fret about if i saved my presentation all the way or not, it will always be saved. It is also convenient because if you have Gmail you can view your presentation, as well as if you have Chrome. I find that this is very helpful especially on the go for mobile phones. The only problems I have had with it is formatting my photos, otherwise I feel that it is better than PowerPoint. I feel it allows you to do much more than PowerPoint.

Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted I should be able to use it."

I think that the images on the internet are not free game for presentations or for any use of public publication. You can only use them if you cite the source correctly and give them credit for your publication. Citations are used for many school projects, but many also be used for personal  projects or for blogs, such as our blog. To be able to use a credible photo source, you need to be able to represent that person's art or object of focus in a legal manner.

What do you want to learn in the class the semester? What information do you want to walk away with that you didn't know before? Elaborate!

I would like to learn more advanced ways to use my skills from computer applications, so that I can feel more confident when I  go into the business world. Not only do I want to get better at using my computer, but I want to be able to find other programs that will make my projects more interesting. I think that blogger will be a great way to put myself out there in the world, but also a great way to learn many new things and information. I have never been good with computers, but once I have  help learning about them, it is a breeze. I would like to be able to gain information about the programs and the uses of those programs. I think that learning about the internet and programs will aid me, due to the fact that our country is becoming more involved with technology.
